18th Century Ship at Ground Zero
« on: July 15, 2010, 04:51:26 AM »
Construction workers at Ground Zero unearthed a ship tentaviley identified as being from the 18th century while digging at the WTC site.  This is actually a pretty neat story.  Hw much other stuff is buried under New York?  I would guess there is plenty, much like some of the old towns in Europe.  The big difference is there is not so much unexploded ordnance in American towns.  America has actually been settled for quite a while now, not to mention all the Indian artifacts that are found as well.

Stories like this always make me think of the some of the old stuff I would find in my backyard when I was a kid.  I once dug up a toy train in my grandparents backyard that my father had lost when he was 4 or 5.  He still remembered the toy because it was his favorite when he was little.  I also used to dig up arrowheads near the railroad embankment in our neighborhood, then my brothers and I would attach them to sticks and throw them at each other while playing cowboys and indians.

That's a cool story about digging up your father's toy train.  Must have been a quick trip back through time for him when you showed it to him.

Yahoo put up a slideshow featuring some pictures of the boat in-situ.
