North Korea Nuke Testing
« on: October 09, 2006, 11:47:57 PM »
North Korea apparently tested a nuclear bomb today or yesterday.  Assuming it was real, how many nations now belong to the "league" of atomic nations?

For extra credit, trace how nuclear secrets passed from the United States to North Korea over the course of 61 years.

Israel and South Africa supposedly have them.  In case you're wondering about South Africa, they allowed the Israelis to test their bombs off their coast, and are a major supplier with the rare minerals needed to fuel and construct nuclear devices.

How did England and France come to acquire the knowledge?  I realize they're allies and all, but I find it hard to believe that the U.S. would readily share this information even with friends.

We might have shared it because we needed them to be able to increase their ability to deter Soviet aggression.....the bigger threat.

Stuff like this gets around sooner or later.
History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time. It illumines reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance in daily life and brings us tidings of antiquity - Cicero
