Castle-hotels in Europe
« on: May 04, 2012, 02:27:28 PM »
Here is a list of some nice castles-turned-hotels in Europe.  The one that is listed in Ireland was owned by my ancestors.  It was neglected by the 20th century, though, and title was passed around (including to my uncle, but he did not accept it).  It was eventually bought by some presumably wealthy people who turned it into a world class hotel.  My family visited the place in 1988.

There are two listed in Ireland. I think the first has a more interesting history though.

The one in my family was Dromoland Castle, since I hail from the O'Brien clan (on my mother's side).

I have ancestors on my father's side that hail from Co. Cork, the Hammetts.  Supposedly minor nobility but I am not certain.  They came to the states in the 18th century.
