I saw this news article:Teams search for Rob Roy's houseIn the article it states that they found fragments from the 1700s on the land and also this:
Archaeologist Derek Alexander told BBC Radio Scotland: "We know from historical documents that Rob Roy MacGregor bought a bit of land from the Duke of Montrose about 1710 or 1711 here on the side of Loch Lomond.
It doesn't seem like it's much to go on, does it? Someone could have moved onto the land along with Rob Roy's family, someone could have moved on after he died, squatters could have moved onto it....sometimes its seems like archaeologists (or journalists?) stretch historical plausibility when artifacts are discovered. Think of the "Jesus Tomb" documentary that just came out this spring.Anyway, I don't know much about Rob Roy except for what I saw in the movie. Anyone know much more about him?
It seems to me at that period of time Montrose was an enemy wasnt he? It wasnt to long after that anyway he was declared an outlaw and everytime they caught up with him they burned his house, I dont think there would be to much left to dig through.
