On July 5, 1668 Prince Louis I of Monaco took the oath to King Louis XIV of France in the Parlement on account of being Duke of Valentinois and a Peer of France. If Prince Louis I had not been a Peer of France, would he still have to take the oath to the King of France if he was only the Duke of Valentinois?
