Recently, the bodies of two more soldiers from WWI were recovered in the Alps. Bodies are discovered high in the Alps several times a year and many are never identified. The battlefields in the Dolomites and Tyrol are some of the highest the world has ever seen. There are literally tens of thousands of bodies unaccounted for since the fighting there ended. In fact, there are entire areas of the high Dolomites that are off limits to climbers because of the danger of unexploded ordinance in the ice. I have seen some of the lower battlefields in the mountains and cannot imagine fighting in a place where the terrain and weather are perhaps bigger threats than enemy action.
