Wonder if any of yooz could help. I have (had?) the following dll's on my computer. Using Vista, they were in my programdata directorynevozosu, vepineto, sozired, nogorike, and felazako. They were are installed with yesterdays date for the folders, but the dll file inside are date like 2016 or something. I use symantec and it detected them but only partially cleaned them. I tried to quarantine them, but to no avail. I had to boot with a CD but not into windows it was a virtual thing with it's own micro-version of windows and stuff. (Hiram's boot CD, just in case anyone's ever heard of it) and deleted the files, ran spybot (which found nothing) and ran a full scan, which only did another partial clean. I manually deleted the folders and files, rebooted, had 2 error messages saying those particular dll's were missing, looked in the programdata directory and they are still nto there (I consider this a good thing?) I believe it was a boot virus, or whatever you call those, which is why symantec couldn't clean them.Symptoms were popups out of no where…not too bad, but still, and computer would hang as windows started. Plus ie was really slow. I've had ie opened for a while now and no popups as of yet (it would have happened by now). I really don't want to reformat. Any suggestions? I googled these names and found some info, but couldn't find any fixes. I'm thinkng of installing the free AVG program just to clean it up as that has worked in the past for me, better than symantec, but that was when I had XP. I know I need to clean out the registry of this crap, that would probably get rid of those error messages, but I don't go there on my own usually.Now since the files are gone, and I'm getting no popups, is it OK to get comfortable? I don't like those error messages at startup, but it's better than being infected. It used to be you could just download a fix and it would get rid of the problem, but these newer trojans are nasty little buggers. Last time I had one, I had to reformat.
What I would do is run a few different anti-virus/trojan programs to make sure you get a clean sweep. Not every anti-virus program will pick up every bad file but if you run scans with different programs, you will increase your odds of cleaning out the crap. You may want to start with the following free programs:A-Squared FreeAvira AntivirusMalwarebytesYou can always uninstall these programs after you run them. I have a few different anti-virus programs on my computer that I manually run from time to time just so I make sure I've comprehensively covered. After you do that, you can clean your registry with simply free cleaner:EasyCleanerThis program is pretty self-explanatory and includes an “undo” button if you need to restore your registry. BTW, how did you get the virus on your computer in the first place?
I would agree with Phid's advice. I have like 4 AV programs I run on a regular basis. Together they seem to do a pretty good job of catching everything because one catches stuff the others don't.
Thanks. I'll try those programs later, especially that registry cleaner. I have some but they are all outdated and not for my version and I don't know any of the current good ones. I wish I knew how I got it. I was googling something (not porn BTW) and opened one of the pages and it got hung up. Apparently it wasn't hung up, it was loading a virus. Usually I'm careful with this stuff and symantec catches it, but not this time. Still had those “can't load dll” messages during boot, but it's running smoother.
Try CCleaner for cleaning the registry. I have a Vista system and it is both free and optimized for Vista. Great program with a real user-friendly GUI. It also has modules for cleaning IE, Firefox, opera, and Chrome. I use all four browsers depending on what I am doing although generally I use Firefox
By the way, thanks for these. Looks like I got it all cleaned up a couple of days ago using the registry cleaner and A-Squared.
Man, I just had another nasty one. Sure glad I have that laptop now. The buyer's remorse is far gone! This one was one of those “antivirus” trojans and I couldn't find where it was located. It also shut off my internet connection, but I searched on how to fix it and reset the lan. I was then finally able to update malwarebytes, symantec, and spybot. Malwarebytes found the trojan and removed it. So far so good, but I need a better AV program. I might go buy AVG. Symantec didn't even catch this one at all this time. >:(
How are you getting all these viruses? Are you opening attachments that are sent to you? Or was it that you really never got rid of the previous one that was inflicting your computer? Before you buy any AV software, I would keep trying to clean it using different programs; the idea being that a virus might not be detected by a particular program, so going more comprehensive will be better at detection.You should try a rootkit scanner as well. I'm pretty sure I cleaned the first one. What stinks is I don't really know how I'm getting them. I was on facebook and then all of a sudden I had that trojan virus scanner thing going on. I think these new virii are going after facebook and myspace users more, btu I haen't heasrd of anyone getting these problems so much. I use IE. I wonder if another web browser would be safer. I do have Firefox installed but I don't use it. Should I? Symantec runs in the background, but like I said it didn't catch this one. Do any of you have virus/malware/spyware programs running in the background? Maybe that's my problem. I just installed AVG, the free one is only good for 30 days, but I got all the bells and whistles going on. Just want to see if that improves things.

You must have downloaded the wrong version of AVG. You probably downloaded the full version with the trial time period. I have the free version of AVG that doesn't expire. I know that the AVG web site is sort of confusing and so it isn't all that intuitive as to which version is the actual free one.
I use TrendMicro running in the background and AVG and Malwarebytes as backups. I also don't use any social networking, WCF is probably as close as I get to that. I personally have only ever had one virus on my machine. My wife and son get plenty on their shared machine though. I tend to blame my kid, he will click on any link irregardless of what it is.
