    The full name of the great state of Rhode Island (The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations), which was given back in 1663 under the original charter, may get the last three words snipped off because of negative connotations with the word “Plantations”.RI to vote on dropping 'Plantations' from its name

    Nothing like trying to rewrite history is there.  So can I then start a drive force the Democratic Party to change its name because of negative connotations having to do with its support of slavery and southern succession in the 1860's?  Post-modernism at its best.

    At least it's up for a vote and not left to the GA to decide for us.  Current polls favor no name change.

    It's been an issue often.  A couple of years ago, the GA was just going to do it until it caused (basically) an uproar because people wanted to vote on it instead.
