Anne of Austria (1601-1666) was the wife of King Louis XIII of France. Though called Anne of Austria, she was the daughter of King Philip IV of Spain. Why was Anne not referred to as Anne of Spain?
Good question. Perhaps it’s because her mother was from Austria, and that “title” fell to her.
