Who are your five favorite authors?Mine are in order of preferenceMark TwainRudyard KiplingEdgar Allen PoeJames A. MitchnerTony Hillerman (Western mystery writer but lots about Native American Beliefs and religions)My first choice was a tossup between Kipling and Mark Twain.  I like to read so choosing only five was really hard

Almost forgot Edward T. Hall and Marvin Harris; they each give great insight into how we (the human animal) thinks about things and solves problems.W.

I just got lucky and found a three volume set of Shelby Foote's books on the Civil War on clearance sale for about 1/3 the regular price.  I was all over them immediately.  Haven't had a chance to start reading them yet.  Still muddling thru James Longstreet's autobiography

… Foote's books on the Civil War on clearance sale….

I'm about halfway through the second book; a pleasure to read but not the type of book one can't put down. In fact it's too easy because it is so easy to get back into. Hence I have put it aside several time (savor perhaps) to read other things more pressing.Foote wrote like he talked… melodious and soothing. Wonderful to read on a rainy winter afternoon.Enjoy,Wally

I've read his books. I did listen to an audio version of his book on Vicksburg, He talked like a proper southern gentleman, I liked listening to him.
