During the Confederate Government collapse and the flight of Jefferson Davis he stopped overnight near Washington,Georgia. He had the Confederate treasury with him. Supposedly the gold was loaded onto a wagon one night and hauled off and never heard from again.  Does anyone have any information on this?   I found this web site after I started this posthttp://www.kudcom.com/www/gold.html

Well that's interesting – has gold not increased in value much since the Civil War?  Here's from that site you linked to:

Worth roughly $100,000 in 1865, when it disappeared, it would be a small fortune in today's dollars–around one million dollars.

Think about a movie which used to cost a nickel or dime back in the early days of Hollywood – now the price is 100 times for a ticket.  But the value of gold has only increased by 10?  Strange…Of course it's an interesting story about the gold, one I had not heard of before.  If it was divided up it could easily be lost.  I wonder if the story about it being buried at the plantation is an old fabrication.

I read a book last year called The Sentinal(sp).  It was a farfetched conspiracy theory that several generations of Confederate descendents had hidden gold to finance the South rising again. Interesting book but hard to believe

That is an interesting conspiracy theory.  Of course theorizing (or flat out making up) motives for historical figures makes for great story lines, as we have seen with the DaVinci Code.
