Check this page out: The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement  Now if that does not highlight the absurdity of the modern left I don't know what does.

They may have a point, as I run into people every day who should not reproduce (mostly in my morning commute, but also – no doubt – in Congress)

I can't tell if that site is tongue-in-cheek or not, but I have heard of at least one eco-radical (though there are probably many) who think the world would best be served by having its population being reduced to a “sustainable” level (I'm guessing they mean under one billion people).  Of course, this begs the question: how on earth would you reduce the population?  For the sake of argument, assume that this was accomplished by erasing the reproductive capabilities of 90% of the world's population.  Civilization would run into chaos as the more populous elderly population was left to its own devices without enough people in the younger generations to take care of them.  Seriously, how could society operate if there were five senior citizens for every one person of working age?  Needless to say, not only is it a horrible decision to try to “reduce” the world's population, but it is also terribly impractical.  Solutions lie in using technology to help mankind, not to harm it.  I point to simple things, such as the air conditioner, as an example of technology which has allowed for greater areas of the world to be habitable.  Look at the population of Arizona one hundred years ago compared to today.

Brings to mind the Stephen King book The Stand – except if I remember correctly, it was something like 98% of the population.  For those who haven't read the book (and I'm not giving anything away) it was a leak of a weaponized virus that killed almost everyone — the “Super Flu”.As far as the increase in the ratio of elderly to young, that brings to mind the cheesy 1980s movie Logan's Run where the population was largely eliminated when they turned 30.

I haven't read that Stephen King book, but the premise sounds almost exactly like that of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six.

I tried to read The Stand and read about 300 pages before I tossed it.  At that point my patience was completely spent.

#1 The Stand is one of Stephen Kings best books, right up there with IT.  I am shocked once again.#2 Yes, these people are for real.  They try to talk people into not having kids because they figure they cannot talk enough people into committing suicide.  They are actually serious.  Here is their Mission Statement from their FAQ's cause you know, if you are serious there has to be a Mission Statement:

VHEMT (pronounced vehement) is a movement not an organization. It’s a movement advanced by people who care about life on planet Earth. We’re not just a bunch of misanthropes and anti-social, Malthusian misfits, taking morbid delight whenever disaster strikes humans. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Voluntary human extinction is the humanitarian alternative to human disasters. We don’t carry on about how the human race has shown itself to be a greedy, amoral parasite on the once-healthy face of this planet. That type of negativity offers no solution to the inexorable horrors which human activity is causing.Rather, The Movement presents an encouraging alternative to the callous exploitation and wholesale destruction of Earth’s ecology. As VHEMT Volunteers know, the hopeful alternative to the extinction of millions of species of plants and animals is the voluntary extinction of one species: Homo sapiens… us.Each time another one of us decides to not add another one of us to the burgeoning billions already squatting on this ravaged planet, another ray of hope shines through the gloom. When every human chooses to stop breeding, Earth’s biosphere will be allowed to return to its former glory, and all remaining creatures will be free to live, die, evolve (if they believe in evolution), and will perhaps pass away, as so many of Nature’s “experiments” have done throughout the eons. It’s going to take all of us going.

#3  Ski,  I found the site off a link in a comment on one of the Liberal sites where I was engaged in my favorite pastime lately.  Namely poking liberals and pointing out how retarded they are, generally in polite terms that get less polite based on the level of vitriol I get in return.  If nothing else, it is good for light entertainment when bored.

Huh… I learned something.  Evidently, evolution (according to these bozos) only works if you believe in it.

…all remaining creatures will be free to live, die, evolve (if they believe in evolution)…

I wonder if ruby slippers are required.
