I hadn't heard of that movie, but I see now it's about Iwo Jima.  I saw The Illusionist the other day at the theater.  It was an interesting period piece with some good acting and a decent storyline.  From what I understand at least some of the tricks are based on actual tricks done by historical magicians.

I am looking forward to flyboys. if you want a good read on WW1 aviation (and beyond) get Jef Shaaras 'To the last man'.

Sorry, folks. I didn't realize this thread was about two specific movies, I though it was a “what movies are you looking forward to” type thread.  I'll pay attention next time.  😛

Oh don't worry about that!  Any historical movie is game.  Otherwise if this thread is only about two movies it wouldn't last that long.

You bet. Flyboys actually took me by surprise about a week ago, so if anyone knows of any new ones, westerns included, post it! I hadnt even heard of the movie until I saw the previews on TV.

I just saw there's a movie coming out in November titled “The History Boys”:

Plot Summary: “The History Boys” tells the story of an unruly class of bright, funny history students in pursuit of an undergraduate place at Oxford or Cambridge….

http://www.comingsoon.net/movie/the-history-boys-2006I saw part of the trailer and needless to say, I don't think I'll be seeing it.  Not quite an “historical” piece, if you will.

Well, it looked like a bit of British humor (or should I say “humour”) if you ask me 🙂 .  Actually I don't think the movie has much to do with history as it does with rambunctious students.

Another movie coming out about the Marie Antoinette starring Kiersten Dunst.  Looked rather cheesy, though.  Can't say I'm going to see it.

They will focus on romance and smooching rather then history.

“The Fountain” is in theaters.  Apparently takes place over a thousand years, the first “episode” of which takes place in the Isabellan world.  Starring Hugh Jackman and that girl from “The Mummy”.

When you say 'episode' does that mean there will be a sequel? or maybe a trilogy? I saw the preview, it looked interesting.
