Haven't heard about that one.  If you think of it, historical movies have an added greatness beyond mere fictional movies.  Simply by saying “based on a true story” gives a film added depth, a moral which is much more relevant than something the minds of Hollywood creators can provide.

HBO is doing a mini series based on the book 'Bury my Heart at wounded Knee' by Dee Brown (if you havent read it, its one of the classics on Indian history) Also hear Bill Paxton and Val Kilmer are doing Lewis and Clark and one supposed to be coming out about John Adams.

I just saw that movie “The Fountain” last night.  Two words – really weird.  If you go to it expecting an historical film you'll be sorely disappointed.  I understood the themes but it was still….well you'll have to see it to know what I mean.I also saw there's a movie out in rental stores now…something like The Last Confederate….anyone seen this one?

I didn't even finish watching it.  I like Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weiz but not even quality actors like them could fix this screwed up storyline.  The floating space island/tree dream sequences really ticked me off. >:(

I watched this movie last night….I was thouroghly disapointed. The movies ending was anti climactic showing Wounded knee in flash backs. I do have to say the scene showing the arrest of Sitting Bull and murder was well done. They could have made a classic but dropped the ball big time.

Two movies will be released soon:”The Illusionist”, starring Ed Norton, takes place in late-Victorian era Vienna.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454824/”Flyboys”, starring James Franco (Spiderman, City by the Sea), is the story of American pilots who joined the French to fight during the First World War.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454824/They should be interesting.

Viewed “The Illisionist” recently on cable, but missed the openening minutes due to channel skipping syndrome (CSS).  Good film, I give it 3 and half baked potatoes.  Even though I missed the openening minutes, I was caught, transfixed even, from the onset.  Don't miss it, or I won't get my royalty for promoting it.

How would you posters vote the movie, “Gettysburg” on factual content, etc.? I realize that some degree of fiction may have been used in the film but I've always loved that film…I make my family sit through it many-a-July 4th Holiday unless my daughter has a ball tournament.

Arguably the best Civil War movie done to date.  Glory would probably be the second best.

” The Wind that Shakes the Barely” Michael Collins features briefly, I'll tell you what, the director captures post WW1 British soldiers to a tee, as was explained to me by an older gent, and my own eyes convinced me as well! Also, loved “Flyboys” and you all must have seen “Gods and Generals” same guy who directed “Gettsburg” Ronald F. Maxwell.

I highly reccomend “Der Untergang” it's English title is “Downfall”.  It is a movie about Hitler's last days in the Fuehrerbunker.  It is only available in German with English subtitles but I know it is available in the States.  Another good one is “Das Leben der Anderen” or “The Lives of Others” about the STASI secret police in the former East Germany this was is available in a dubbed version and is excellent. The Lives of Others, Der Untergang

I second scout's sentiments about Der Untergang. For anyone interested in histor, it's as “must see” as any movie ever made. The wind that shakes the Barley was also a good one. I wouldn't call it a historical movie but Tarantino's “Inglorious Basterds” was a fun alternate history movie.
