I'm supposed to be flying to Florida tomorrow afternoon, but I think 110-140 MPH winds are going to be a problem.  If you don't hear from me in the next few days it's because I'm either in Florida or in RI with no electricity. To tell you the truth, I don't really want to go. By biggest “fear” right now is the flight won't be cancelled, and the hurricane will hit later tomorrow night. (I sure as heck don't want to be 1000 miles away wondering what's going on with my house if that's the case  🙁 )Oh well, will just have to wait and see what happens.

Have a good trip.  On a side note, every time they mention the Hurricane I get the mental picture of Jason Lee as Earl in “My Name is Earl.” ;D

That's better than thinking of that Dixie Chicks song like I do. (Goodbye Earl)

Bad timing with the hurricane.  Perhaps the National Weather Service should hold a contest/vote to pick hurricane names…would be interesting to see what comes up.

Wasn't there a push several years ago to give hurricanes ethnic names and not just traditional Anglo-Saxon names?  I seem to remember from reading an opinion decrying the imminent appearance of hurricanes with names like shaneequah and moon unit.

Funny.  I do recall when they added female names to the mix.  Or was it that they added male names?  It's actually kind of interesting that they give them person names to begin with…kind of like anthropomorphizing them so that we can “relate” to them better.  😉

They added male names. Except for the Outer Banks, Earl has been almost a non event here in NC. I am tempted to call and see how cheap I can pick up a cancellation at Atlantic Beach…

Yeah, it looks like Earl has fizzled out.  Southwest cancelled their flights for tonight, but it's still on for the afternoon.  Mine departs at 4.

Well, it turns out most places are still booked up down at the “Crystal Coast”. I am not sure if it is an NC law or if this is true everywhere, but if there is a hurricane watch/warning in effect and/or the bridge/ferry (there are virtually no mainland beaches in NC; some are across a narrow sound or canal, but the bridges still close in high winds) or the business closes due to weather, they have to refund full payment. So a lot of people don't cancel; they just wait and see. The shell hounds will be out in force this weekend, though the best stuff has probably already been scooped up.
