When he goes off subject and goes on his rants..YES!!  If he could just be normal all the time, like he does sometimes, then no, he's OK.JMO.

He's on just about every website I either own or post on so I'm used to him LOL.

I have placed him in the “Barbarian” membergroup so he won't be able to read the Roman Senate Chambers. Some of his posts have gotten to the point where they can detract from discussion and even be reason for non-members not to participate.  I'm pretty tolerant here with non-offensive discussion and don't mind if things go off topic, but repeatedly doing it and making reply after reply to one's own post can be overkill.  I have moved some of his posts into the “Quarantine Area” (visible to admins only) and have outright deleted other posts of his which essentially have no merit.Other options I have can be banning him, including temporarily.  I'm not big on banning but if people find him to be too much of a discussion killer I can weigh my options.

Oh thank God, I thought the problem was simply me. Each and every post I've had to reread a few times to figure out what he's saying and then I sometimes give up. Some of his posts have really disturbed me because he doesn't write in a fluid manner so reading them are a bit 'trying', imo. Anyway, nice to know that I'm safe in how I feel when I see his posts.

That's what concerns me the most.  I keep thinking “what if someone from school is reading his garbage”

Occasionally, things go off topic here, but we remain for the most part historical or at least take it in a political/current event direction. But most importantly, if we're off topic, it's still coherent. :-I'm not fond of banning him either.  The poor guy's been banned from everywhere.  Is it too difficult for you or for you to have someone delete his weirder posts?

True and too true… but perhaps it may be that he's writing in too fluid a manner, if you catch my meaning.Cheers,Wally

I think he is at a minimum, entertaining, even though it sometimes strains my brain to figure out what he is trying to say.  I dont think banning him would be the way to go.  All the regulars should just take him with a grain of salt. However, the reason I like this forum so much is that it stays topical and every thread doesn't just degenerate into insensate name-calling.  This is one of the only civil forums I have found where real discussion takes place of either historical subjects and especially current events.

All of you gentlemen are correct; tolerance is best. I really enjoy this forum because I'm allowed to post ideas, opinions, etc. without others “pouncing” on me if I'm wrong. With this being my first year as a History major, I admit I am definitely NOT at the same level of education as the majority of posters here.

Ok, as long as people aren't getting too annoyed, I will keep doing what I have been doing – deleting his posts where he should reasonably know that they really have nothing to do with anything and where I feel that they might drive people away by their mindlessness.  As Donnie had mentioned he's on a few of the other sites within our informal “network” and we've dealt with him before, but in the end we also realize he's rather harmless.

There's no easy solution with him because when he's been drinking, he will ramble like there's no tomorrow.  He can get foul mouthed too and this forum is no place for that kind of behavior.  He can get away with much more on my gun forum, but not here.  Play it by ear and if he gets too rowdy, just lock his account and tell him why.  I'll give him more leeway at Christian Legacies because he can't do that much harm over there.

Perhaps occasional public scolding from the usual lot here will help too.  Just remind him when he's saying something inappropriate. He's able to carry a conversation sometimes, so maybe there's hope.  And if that doesn't work, then ban him.  ;D

He often makes me scratch my head trying to figure out what he is saying.  But then again, as they say, every village needs an idiot and he seems to fit the bill.  I will keep trying to put him on the spot but he is like a liberal in his ability to ignore reality.

I'm chuckling at scout's use of “every village needs an idiot”…my office has an idiot, per se. She giggles at everything which is not only annoying but very unprofessional. HF's ramblings aren't as bothersome now that I know to expect them whenever I see his name…
