Geography quiz thread:  OK, I said what I did because he gets on my nerves.  I just wanted to get that off my chest.  If he comes back and attacks me, I'll ignore it.  I won't fight or argue with him on the board.

He got banned at NJO for a month (which I think was charitable…..beleive me, he was waayyy over the line there). It's not my board, but I would recommend banning him for a week or two, and explain to him why.If, after his “sentence” is served, he continues to act like a druken idiot, ban him for good. I visit a very large and extremely popular online history forum, often. Members there seem to enjoy the bashing of others constantly. Though I enjoy reading a few of the postings and try to take away some sort of education from the more knowledgable posters, the criticism and bashing reminds me that there are many adults who haven't really matured past the junior high school age. HF is a good example of this, IMO. On that particular forum, I never post; just read due to a poster who seemed to be very bothered that I was just a “newbie” therefore my post wasn't worthy of an answer. Hopefully, since this forum is smaller and the majority of posters know what to expect from HF, he won't chase away others.

I really don't know what his deal is. I have been deleting many of his posts to save others from more of the mindlessness.  But he keeps on going and dominates the board.  I may do what QD suggests and do a temporary ban for a while.

Like I said over at GAA, just ban him and be done with it.  He doesn't fit in with what you're trying to do here.  He can go back to posting at GAA if he wants since his month ban should be up by now, and he can post at CL if he has an inkling to.  He doesn't need to be here screwing up what you're trying to accomplish here.  You are not advocating a Katie bar the door free speech forum anyway so you don't owe him anything.  He's not respecting your board, so you don't have to respect him IMHO.

After further reflection, I have to agree with Don on this one.  Just ban him and get it over with.  He is impossible to reason with, you can all see that I have at least tried, and his rambling detracts from the topics under discussion.  It seems that any topic he posts to dies because nobody wants to put up with his mindless drivel if they post after him.  He reminds me of my ex-wife, he always has to have the last word.I have to wonder which drugs he is on, whatever they are they must be really blowing his mind, he sounds almost like Timothy Leary when he gets on a role.If I have a vote, and I am not sure if I do, I would have to say ban him.

For what it's worth, I think I may have disciplined him into “submission”.  Over time I kept deleting his posts that were pointless and only kept the ones that were intelligent and/or on topic, and also deleted repetitive replies.  He eventually realized I was deleting his posts and it sounds like he got a bit annoyed and then stopped spamming and posting for the most part, though I noticed the last post or two he did were “normal” and not “weird”.  Bottom line – I think I may have broken his spirit in regard to what he was doing, but I can go back and delete other posts which might be considered “topic killers”.

Is there a “delete all” option around here?  ;D

He's found his way back to CL. Just an echo chamber over there right now and not a problem.  It's a good way to make sure the old fart is stil alive and kicking. 🙂

Yeah, I saw what he was doing over at CL.  He really does act like a spammer, doesn't he?  He pipes up with mindless posts when others quiet down.

Correction – I spoke too soon.  He is still at it here.

Deep sigh… I thought he was doing better until the blender and the Vodka came around; might be a clue, eh?[edit] And it even gets uglier; not sure the good mind / free thinker comment is anything but bait.

I've put him on a cool-off period in which he can't post.  It's temporary but hopefully he'll get the message.
