Rickets is making a comeback among children in England, due to factors like excessive use of sunscreen, nutrition, and staying indoors too much (e.g. playing video games).  The doctor in the article says it's a situation like England faced in the 17th century.  However, wasn't rickets more prevalent in the 19th century as the Industrial Revolution was in full force, making children work in factories for long periods of time?Middle class children suffering rickets

Surprinsingly the following article is adding another factor, ethnic one, about that rise in rickets. However both are referring to the 17th century.http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8570542.stm

I suppose today exposure to the sun is very risky, but rickets isn't the only problem that can arouse from not getting enough sunlight. Why was the disease around in the 17th century?
