Anyone know if Robert F. Kennedy held office of some type at his death? If so, that would make three brothers who died while holding office. Eldest brother (Joe Jr., I believe) was killed while in the military during WWII, so all four brothers would have died in the employment/service of the United States.
Robert Kennedy had just won the senate race against Eugene McCarthy, I think he was shot the next day. I don't think Robert was offically sworn in. Why did it happen? The simple answer is, I believe, they had lots of enemies. John & Robert made war on organized crime, I also think there was a Bay of Pigs/ communist shadow that was always looming and waiting for revenge.
Bobby was Sen. from NY (McCarthy was Minn) and had just won the CA Pres. primary. Shooter was a Palastian (Sirhan B. Sirhan; still serving time). I was a Jr. in HS studying for finals and stopped to check the results on the late news….
So wouldn't that have made RFK a kind of carpet bagger if he was representing NY? Interestingly, over the past few days they've had a number of Kennedy family documentary-type stories on TV. In one of them JFK is quoted as saying that when he first ran for Congress he felt like a bit of a carpet bagger since he had resided for many years outside the district that he eventually ran in. He also recalls that his days at Harvard didn't really endear him to his district.Seems like TMK/EMK may have been the only non-carpet bagger brother, but I'm not totally sure about this.

Yes, just as Nixon having moved to NY would have been if he'd run (after the CA Gov. race… odds were that that was a possibility) and as HRC was. New York seems not to have much problem with this sort of thing.

True enough… they “held” ther seat for him (appointed a stalking horse until Ted was 30 YOA).
Saw this piece this morning where RFK's son has said that he will not run for his uncle's Senate seat. Former Rep. Joseph Kennedy nixes Senate campaign I think the Kennedy's have had enough of being in office and will now settle down and just concentrate on being rich. I would not entirley discount that a Kennedy will run for congress again though.
