Thanks for entering the Western Civ Forum, the place for discussing European and American history! ?All levels of history students, scholars, and aficionados are welcome to this friendly forum as we discuss the broad picture and finer points of Western Civ. ?I've provided a lot of forum topics on different events and areas of western civ history, but if there's something that I missed that you'd like to discuss in a forum, please let me know. ?I'll probably add a few more forum topics, and remove/consolidate others that are currently running.Feel free to register and before posting, and please abide by the forum rules! Thanks for stopping by! 😉

I've been here long enough now to really be annoyed at the black background when posting replies. There is no worst background. My little I-beam pointer is lost – and the effort needed to post here has ruined my train of thought enough times to promp this complaint. Why make posting a chore rather than a pleasure? The “Please notify me of replies” option is appreciated – perhaps a spell checker would also be useful.

Interesting….I'm wondering if your monitor brightness is set to low, because having seen the background on at least three monitors, it shouldn't be bad at all.  However, this weekend I will see about installing another template that you can use which won't include a black background.  I'll let you know when it's installed.

Alright, I have changed the posting box so it's now black on a really light gray.  I hope it works better for you. I'll still have to look into the spell checker.  I would like that as well, but I'll have to see if that is possible with this forum software.

Gentlemen,Thank you for the welcome. I have arrived at this site through frustation with another history site that was not very active and seemed to be about to drown in spam. I do not see any signs of either with this forum. I will be watching for a bit before posting much but I'm looking forward to being part of you site.Cheers,Wally

I think I know the site you are referring to.  Such a shame that site was neglected.  It had potential and VBulletin software is not cheap, so why would someone go to the expense of setting it up and then not spending a few minutes each monitoring it or having someone to monitor it? 😳

Sadly this seems to be the fate of all too many forums these days. W/o constant effort (or the right software) they are easy targets for the spammers and porn linkers. Thanks for the prompt reply and welcome email.Cheers,Wally

Yes, thanks for registering on our site.  I've found a way to keep virtually all robot spammers away from posting on this site.  Of course, no one can keep human spammers away, but that's not so much of a problem.  🙂

Just was being polite and saying hello. Someone from Ornery.org mentioned this place. It may be more my speed as lately having a child has tended to limit my current affairs watching. Plus I have really limited Mac time these days to go find video feeds to back up every single comment I make.Have a degree in Modern German History, as well as Anthropology. And I chose the avatar mostly because I was forced to in order to register-but mostly because I am related directly  to the Arlington Lees.

Good to have a fellow B.A. on the board.  Mine is in U.S. (emphasis on Colonial American in grad work) with another concentration in Ancient Greek and Roman–Early Patristic Fathers.  I look forward to your contributions to this board! 😎

Indeed, welcome!  We have a loose connection to Ornery.org by way of AI-Jane.org by way of the NJO….  BTW sorry about the avatar.  I do take requests, though.

Hi everyone,I wasn't sure where to post an introduction, so if this is not the thread for it then I apologize. This looks like a great sight and while I am a history novice, I do enjoy reading about it. My name is Johanna and I am currently reading a book called “Conquest” which you may have heard of. I'll post more about it in the appropriate section. Anyway I just wanted to say hello!  🙂

Hello Johanna, and than you for joining the forum!  We're a collection of history amateurs and more advanced students who share interests in a wide spectrum of historical events, people, and issues.  So….why don't you tell us a little about your own forum…the one on politics in your signature?
