Is there any period/war/era that you would like to see a movie made? (one that hasn't been done already)  For me, I would like to see a large-budget, well-done, accurate, epic trilogy of the Peloponnesian War. Since I've been working out, I can probably be cast as a hoplite extra or something.Costaud.gif Pompes01.gif

I would still like to see the movie I mentioned in this thread (on the same topic).  I think a movie on the reign of Julian the Apostate (361-363) would be quite good.  It would cover his rise to the seat of the emperor, his drastic attempts at changing the religion of the empire, and his tragic and controversial death at the Battle of Samarra.  Of course, the producers would probably have to take a stance or conclusion about who actually killed Julian – the Persians, or someone from his own army.A Peloponnesian War series could be very good as well.  They would probably have to string it out to do it justice, like the did Band of Brothers.  One of the problems, though, is that in the book they include some long discourses.  I don't think those would necessarily go over well on screen, so they'd either have to edit them down or omit them.  I'm not sure how that would affect the final product.

No, that's fine.  That other one was old enough. The problem with (most) historical movies is that when they're bad, they can be really bad.  That's why they are always harder to make than modern-day pictures.  If you know too much about Greek society, then most films of it will be unconvincing.  Nevermind the suspension of unbelief due to the language difference.  There's also the problem with modern directors/audiences, even in historical films; X number of explosions, the obligatory gratuitous scene, and some part where the hero bucks the trend with some P.C. values against an otherwise oppressive society.  If a director can resist these temptations, the the audience can hang on without these things, there is hope. [/rant]I would also like to see a movie with Caesar Augustus.  One of the greatest leaders in Western history and I can't think of a single portrayal of the man…

Yes, Caesar Augustus would be a good subject for a movie, but your mention of PC would probably pollute it.There is enough violence and battles and treachery in the Peloponnesian War to satisfy the modern audience. I think if they took the angle that some thought the war was preventable, it could play to the PC crowd as well and still make Western Civilization look good.  It would just be cool to see a well-done reenactment of ancient ground and naval battle.  300 had good battle scenes, but imagine some with 4-5,000 extras or 200 triremes in an epic Ben-Hur style production!

Aside from one based on my novel  :D, I would choose a film or better yet a miniseries on the life of Talleyrand.

I would like to see movies made about John Hunt Morgan (Confederate Calvary Raider who “invaded” the North), James Madison, George Whitefield, and Ronald Reagan.

I'd like to see a well done, big budget and reasonably accurate movie on Hannibal (the Carthiginian, not the cannibal)

That would be a great movie.  Given modern filmmaking, I'm surprised it hasn't been done on a large scale.

Although I don't watch much tv I will admit I saw every show and really enjoyed the Tudors. The costumes, drama, etc. was very well done. However I don't think it is 100% historically accurate, but it more or less captures what I suppose we can all only imagine what life would have been like in those years.Regarding Jamestown we just covered that in our US history class, as for movies I can't think of anything specific but for Virginia and slave trade in general I really like PBS' Slavery and the Making of America (I can provide a link to watch for free if you like), episode 1 of 4 talks about Virginia. As far as I know Jamestown was founded in 1607 (?) if so that makes it about a year younger than Quebec city and one of the oldest north american cities other than St. Augustine in present day Florida.
