I was browsing around the net the other day and came across an article about civil war reenactments in Europe. It made me wonder what is it about that war the so enthralls the world? It certainly wasnt the only CW fought. But around the world everyone knows and is interested in that war. Why? Was it the issues? The people? The battles? Any guesses?

In the Southern US it is because with a population at that time period of only about 6 million almost every family was affected.  The Northern states with a population of about 22 million were less personally affected. Also the “Glorious Lost Cause” sympathy for the underdog. All of my ancestors were Confederate soldiers and most of my wife's family were also.  Some of her's never came back. Some of both ours came back maimed.  That was  a war that should have never been allowed to happen.

Do you have a link to where you saw the story about Civil War reenactors in Europe?  I'd be interested in reading about it.  I wonder if it's done by American transplants over in Europe.  There any number of soldiers stationed at bases over there.Otherwise, it could just be due to fascination with history.  Just as Americans have a fascination with European history, there might be some fascination with our history as well.  After all, we are Europe's creation, aren't we?
