Western Civ Forum made a big change recently!  All the past forum posts were kept intact (too much knowledge that I didn’t want to just throw away), b

I should note that if anyone wants to be able to post under his old profile, simply make a post as a guest user and I will manually merge your guest account and old account. Then, you’ll be able to change your avatar.

We can’t see unread topics anymore.  That makes me sad. 🙁

What do you mean “unread” topics?  To save for later?  You can click on the “Favorite” or “Subscribe” buttons at the top of the thread if you want.  Otherwise, I can try to find whether there’s a way to implement what you want if I understand it correctly.

The old SMF forum had the option of clicking on “see unread topics” so you could see all the posts made since the last visit.

I see.  I’ll try to find something similar if I can.

I take it there is no way to only see what has been posted since the last visit?  I am still sad, but I will deal with it.

Failing a “see unread” option is it possible that topics get sorted in date order in the forum view?  That would alleviate having to wade through dozens of pages.

Ok, this is aggravating.  I know that there must be a solution to this problem, since what you’re looking for is fairly straightforward, and I can actually do it from the back end but not the front end.  However, I have not been able to find a plugin that easily does what you’re asking. I have tried a few different ones, and none of them seem to work the right way.

One of the problems is that the theme I’m using doesn’t use traditional sidebars.  I might have to switch themes before I can have an area to post the most recent comments.

Sorry about this problem.  I’ll keep trying to figure out a solution, since one should be out there.

This is not a complete solution, but I put a link in top to “recent topics”.  Unfortunately, it does not show the most recent replies, but only topic. I am still searching for another solution to the replies problem, but hopefully this link will at least help a little.

Lo and behold!  Finally found a way to display recent replies!  Just click on the accordion menu (three horizontal bars on upper right) and you’ll see them there.  I limited it to 10 replies, but I can increase this if it becomes a problem.  Let me know how it works for you.

Ok, so oddly the “recent replies” does not include new topics in that list, so I added a separate widget to display the recent topics next to the recent replies.  Hopefully this should cover most of the new stuff that appears here.
