This is a second notice about this change.  If anyone has any objections, or wants a specific thread to remain locked from public view, you need to notify me.  Otherwise, I’ll make this change tomorrow.

Not sure if this veteran is still alive, but if so, he’s about 110 years old.

In honor of Memorial Day, revisiting this thread.  The photo originally attached is still available here.

I have been watching a historical fiction series on Netflix called “Turn” which is about spies during the American Revolution. George Washington plays a part in the series and we also get to see a lot of what goes on within the ranks of British decision-makers. Washington comes across as a noble leader who commands respect, so it’s interesting to hear that he was Britain’s “greatest foe”.

Unfortunately, they don’t have my favorite on here – the good old blunderbuss!

I see that Donnie pulled the Writers of History forum down, so now my presentation tips post is not accessible. I’ll have to come up with some more ideas and post it on the front of WCF.

In any case, here are a few tips for the heck of it (this will vary based on the type of presentation):
    – Don’t read a paper word-for-word during a presentation
    – Don’t put too much text into slides
    – Do make eye contact with the audience on a regular basis
    – Do use a bit of scholarly humor to the presentation – as in dry humor regarding the content – to lighten up academic topics

Well, I like to revisit this thread on Good Friday each year, like today.

I didn’t pick Kentucky to win it in any of my brackets this year.  I read up on bracket strategies, and I learned that so many people would be picking UK that it would be really hard to compete against those brackets.  Therefore, it’s better to pick an upset somewhere along the line which then gives you an advantage over the people who did choose UK.

In a few brackets, I picked Arizona to win it all.

Ok, so oddly the “recent replies” does not include new topics in that list, so I added a separate widget to display the recent topics next to the recent replies.  Hopefully this should cover most of the new stuff that appears here.

Lo and behold!  Finally found a way to display recent replies!  Just click on the accordion menu (three horizontal bars on upper right) and you’ll see them there.  I limited it to 10 replies, but I can increase this if it becomes a problem.  Let me know how it works for you.

This is not a complete solution, but I put a link in top to “recent topics”.  Unfortunately, it does not show the most recent replies, but only topic. I am still searching for another solution to the replies problem, but hopefully this link will at least help a little.

Ok, this is aggravating.  I know that there must be a solution to this problem, since what you’re looking for is fairly straightforward, and I can actually do it from the back end but not the front end.  However, I have not been able to find a plugin that easily does what you’re asking. I have tried a few different ones, and none of them seem to work the right way.

One of the problems is that the theme I’m using doesn’t use traditional sidebars.  I might have to switch themes before I can have an area to post the most recent comments.

Sorry about this problem.  I’ll keep trying to figure out a solution, since one should be out there.
