I don't quite know what to make of the increasingly quixotic attempts to prosecute people who might have been Nazis.  I find it both sickening and amusing at the same time. :-

Reading about terrorist #1 burial controversy.  Apparently no cemetary in Mass will bury him.  Not sure what I think, but part of me thinks bury him anywhere and just get it over with.

Part of me thinks just dump him at sea.  I don't see why we should bend over backwards to accommodate his religious mandate to bury him in the earth.  Either give him to the family to do with as they will or wash our hands of the whole deal.  Isn't there some kind of stricture about the body has to be buried within 72 hours of death in Islam? Then again, I am not going to have a lot of pity for whatever happens to that dirt-bag.

If we could be bothered to develop domestic oil sources we could be free of dependence on Mid-East oil.  That will not happen as long as we have a liberal president though. You are correct that the list of problems is seemingly endless.  A good place to start would be ending people's dependency on the state for housing and sustenance.  Charity is not a government responsibility.

While we're on topic, perhaps the biggest SCOTUS blunder of this era was the selection of David Souter by GHWB.  How that happened is mind-boggling to me.

Because the Elder Bush was just as liberal as Bill Clinton.  The only reason he was elected is Dukakis was a horrible candidate and he rode Reagan's coat-tails into office.  His broken promises kept him from being re-elected most significantly, his breaking of his tax pledge.

I was happier in 1983, but I was 9 years old too.

    +1 I was too, but I was 12.

The article in Sky & Telescope did have some corroborating testimony from the men who were there that night.  The problem is that the testimony comes fro papers written well after the event and even if true the fact remains that even under a full moon it is difficult to distinguished uniform colors.  It could just as easily have been a Union patrol riding down the road.  There is also the fact that the location where Jackson was shot is in the middle of a forest which would tend to attenuate any illumination.  I have been to the spot and it is relatively unchanged in the middle of thick woods.  It was simply one of those things that happen in war.  Let us not forget that war is inherently dangerous, just look at the bombings prior to Operation Cobra in Normandy in July 1944 where short bombing killed quite a few Americans to see how badly things can go even when everything is apparently done right.

They don't do Garage Sales over here.  The Flea Mrakets do sometimes have some unnoticed gems though.  I know a couple of guys that like to go to Flea Markets and buy militaria that they then sell over the internet to Americans and make a pretty good profit.  There are usually quite a few WWII era militaria thins you can buy that you would not think would be worth anything but in actuality are.  Nazi rank pips fetch a pretty good price in the States but you have to be careful of fakes.I got lucky with the coins because the seller was selling them at base metal value despite them being 90% silver, which he apparently did not know.

In the Army we said “S&*t Happens,” Stonewall Jackson's death was an example of that.  He was in the wrong place at the right time. The shooting was just one of those things that happens in war.  Oh yeah, Picket Lines were actually in front of the front lines, they acted as early warning, today we call pickets OPs or Observation Posts.By the way, I read that article in last month's Sky & Telescope (I have a subscription) and while it presents a good case I did not find it definitive.

I would like to submit for consideration Saudi Arabia as well.  If not, then let's go imperial on them and take the oil.  Problem solved. (Man, I should be Secretary of State)

I am cool with that.  As far as I am concerned all the Islamic nations have by their failure/inability to control extremists that they do not belong to the community of nations.  We should treat them as such.  Islamism represents an existential threat to western society every bit, if not more, dangerous than our own internal liberal progressives.  If you think about it the lib-progs are at a minimum fellow travelers of the islamists as the ultimate goal of both groups is the destruction of western culture as it now exists.

Sure, but we also need to pull out of the Middle East and set our attack dog Israel on “watch.”

Can we at least turn Iran and probably Pakistan too, into a parking lot before we leave?

My biggest problem is that I do not suffer fools gladly. Being a Drill Sergeant was ok because I could control the turds.  You have nothing like that kind of control in a normal classroom.

Ski has it right, the problem is Islam.  Cutting off Immigration from Islamic countries is a start but not the solution.

Why take a chance that we don't have to?  I am supposed to have an ounce of pity or empathy for someone or their family that wants harm my fellow citizens?  I think not. I am perfectly willing to shut down immigration of any kind from a whole host of countries starting with Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
