Thinking back the almost 40 years to Western-Civ 1A; seems like both are in the mix as they are nominally “western” and the beginnings of “Civ” after the hunter/gatherers invent (or discovery according to some) agriculture and can (or have to) settle down.My Prof was widely traveled in Europe (WWII) and our resident Middle Ages guy so we got mostly that. as an aside I have a 6th grade Ancient History class with uses this line also. granted we are less western than used to be… India, China and Meso America are included too. No Child Left Behind and no culture left out.   ;DWally

Seems like the big all-in-one (enclosed) malls in my area are thinning out… it hasn't gotten any cooler nor warmer in winter but the days of the anchor store are sort of gone. So too, any that would aspire to that grandure aren't liking the competition of 20-30 boutique types all around them.On another level the mall can serve a wide area but with more sprawl we are seeing more of the strip type as folks aren't anymore interested in going clear across the city tha with fighting the downtown traffic congestion that spawned the mall concept in the first place.Just my observation of my locality.Wally

I think the best way to sqelch his ideology, or at least remove his “hero” status, is through better education.

There was a little blurb about the bad maneuver by the House to condemn the killing of over one million Armenians by Turkey in the First World War:….So do people here agree or disagree?  Was this a needless political act which only really hurts relations today?  Or was it important as a matter of justice to bring this up?

Doesn't have to be labeled; neither did the systematic treatment of AmerInds during the 18th and 19th century, eh? Reminds me of Bill Clinton apologizing for slavery… a grandstand play, nothing more.

Sadly most of the folks I met that fell into that catagory have already gone to their greater reward. Many of the WWII guys were exposed to or suffered from things that take a toll later and as good as science is it's kind of hard to fix a machine that is wearing out anyway and survived such abuse as our Vets took.A kid coming in right at the end, seeing little or no action might have a chance at a Centential but more likely he would have paid a similar kind of price in Korea or even VN (early on). The Vets today are surviving better but at what cost to them later? With Vets Day coming God Bless 'em all, every one.

Possible but somewhat doubtful too… my dad passed away at 77 just over three years ago; he was very young entering the war (lied about age). Given that in 2030 he'd have been at 103 and a kid of 15 lying his way in in '45 would be 100 by then….

“So long as the Arabs fight tribe against tribe, so long will they be a little people, a silly people – greedy, barbarous, and cruel, as you are.” …one of the lines from the movie (TEL), far too true of the world in general and that area in particular, eh?Wally

Very interesting and kind of scarely that, but I'm sure that the openness of the 'net will have to, in time, go away.  🙁

The discussion at hand begs the question; how do we manage to keep the spammers off this site so well?No answer necessary if it would compromise the same end. Does seem interesting though that CL has started to get some spammers, albeit dealt with fairly quickly, but present none-the-less. Whatever it is keep it up… no need for more ringtones or Chinese shoes here. Also I'm not shure what this spider thing is… someone (guest) that gets here via yahoo or whatever? Software can ID them?Yours in ignorance,Wally

Understood; isn't, however, faith and acceptance of Christ enough to get the gift?Yes… I also understand that the evidence of salvation (ala Calvinism) has been the good works and success that one displays in life (family, church, community). Hence, the very fact that one has / displays faith must therefore be the evidence of salvation, eh?

Check the book by Mann; 1491. Up to date work that looks at all the pre-Columbian issues.I'm currently about 1/2 way through it. Well worth your time and very thought provoking.Wally

Interesting that the poll has This Land is My Land… while that may be the second phrase in the first line it's more like the gist of Exodus, words by Pat boone (yes that Pat Boone  :o)This land is mine, God gave this land to me….
