I found a discussion about the “Medieval Warm Period” (MWP) which suggests it was warmer than what we experience today:
...Weckstrom et al.'s data indicate that the peak warmth of the AD 1200-1300 termination phase of the MWP was about 0.15?C warmer than the peak warmth of the post-1920 period. Even more interesting, the peak warmth of the AD 1380-1550 period was warmer still, at 0.25?C above the peak warmth of the post-1920 period.
In another thread we discussed the "Little Ice Age" and its effect on civilizations. Interesting to hear, though, about the late surgence in warm weather during the MWP. Perhaps the Florence of the Medici and Rafael or the Rome of Pope Julius II would have been more "tropical" than what we know of it today.
I've read articles in the past that discuss the weathers cycles through history and it does make me wonder about all the clamour for global warming.
