I ran across this interesting story today about a bunch of 300 year-old shoes being found in the walls of a castle being restored here in Germany. the story says it may have been done because of a superstition about the shoes bringing good luck. I have never heard of such a superstition but I supppose it could be true. they also found some shoes dating to the 19th century which seems to support the superstition theory. Interesting story if nothing else.
That's a neat story. I will forward the link to one of my professors who studies historical dress. The reason for putting them behind the walls would make for a good article to be published, for someone who chooses to do so.
I just thought it was strange and had never heard of the superstition. A little different than the stories you sometimes hear about people finding money stashes in walls.
